Using the Gregg Alphabet as reference, we can
see most of the letters in "atrophied" are

 written as "f"?
Simple. In shorthand, you cut out all vowels in a

Also, since Shorthand is a phonetic writing

phonetic sounds of words rather than the actual
letter blends in this case, write an "f" instead of
 a "ph"
So in actuality, these aren't just meaningless
scribbles -it's Gregg Shorthand, a writing
system developed to take down notes more
quickly than when written out in full, which is
very useful in a medical or journalistic
 environment

Although this isn鈥檛 necessary on AO3, this is not uncommon in Chinese fandom sites that you have to prove your credentials to get in (in fact it wasn鈥檛 uncommon in English-language fandom sites 15-20 years ago).聽 We respond to all of these tickets, even the ones that just say hi.聽 We check whether the user has managed to receive their invite or get their account sent up, and if they haven鈥檛, we help them do so.聽 This means taking every single ticket through our Chinese translation team twice, once so we make sure we understand the initial ticket, and then again to translate our reply.聽 This is a challenging process, although we鈥檝e found ways to streamline it and can normally get a reply out pretty quickly (like within a few days).聽 We do it because this is part of why AO3 exists in the first place - to provide a safe haven where users can post their works without worrying about censorship or sudden crackdowns on certain kinds of content.聽 We do it because this is important, and helping these users get their accounts and be able to share their works safely is why we鈥檙e here.聽 We hope that we鈥檒l be able to help as many of them as possible.聽聽 There have been a few (thankfully few, that I鈥檝e seen) complaints about these new AO3 users not always knowing how things work - what language to tag with, or what fandom tags to use, for instance.聽 To this I would say: 1. You can read the post here聽for more info, but I wanted to just add a bit about what this entails from my POV, on the Support team.聽 Somewhere between 录 to 1/3 of all our tickets last month were in Chinese (somewhere upwards of 300 out of 1200 or so), almost all from users just setting up their accounts or trying to find out how to get an invitation.聽 A lot of the tickets are what I鈥檇 characterize as聽鈥渋ntro鈥 tickets - they say hi, list favourite fandoms or pairings, or provide samples of fic they鈥檝e written. Although this isn鈥檛 necessary on AO3, this is not uncommon in Chinese fandom sites that you have to prove your credentials to get in (in fact it wasn鈥檛 uncommon in English-language fandom sites 15-20 years ago).聽 We respond to all of these tickets, even the ones that just say hi.聽 We check whether the user has managed to receive their invite or get their account sent up, and if they haven鈥檛, we help them do so.聽 This means taking every single ticket through our Chinese translation team twice, once so we make sure we understand the initial ticket, and then again to translate our reply.聽
This is a challenging process, although we鈥檝e found ways to streamline it and can normally get a reply out pretty quickly (like within a few days).聽 We do it because this is part of why AO3 exists in the first place - to provide a safe haven where users can post their works without worrying about censorship or sudden crackdowns on certain kinds of content.聽 We do it because this is important, and helping these users get their accounts and be able to share their works safely is why we鈥檙e here.聽 We hope that we鈥檒l be able to help as many of them as possible.聽聽
There have been a few (thankfully few, that I鈥檝e seen) complaints about these new AO3 users not always knowing how things work - what language to tag with, or what fandom tags to use, for instance.聽 To this I would say:
1. Have patience and be considerate.聽 They are coming to a new site that they aren鈥檛 familiar with, and using it in a language they may not be expert in, and it might take a while to learn the ropes.聽 You can filter out works tagged in Chinese if you don鈥檛 want to see them.聽 Or just scroll past.聽聽

The Epic Of Gilgamesh In Sumerian

The EPIC OF GILGAMESH is the earliest great work of literature that we know of, and was first written down by the Sumerians around 2100 B.C.

Ancient Sumer was the land that lay between the two rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, in Mesopotamia. The language that the Sumerians spoke was unrelated to the Semitic languages of their neighbors the Akkadians and Babylonians, and it was written in a syllabary (a kind of alphabet) called 鈥渃uneiform鈥. She had to work with others and listen to wisdom and advice in order to make informed decisions. She was powerful, but not invulnerable. She was relatable and likable. She didn鈥檛 go around being cold and rude to people for no damn reason and ooze pretension with every word she spoke. Y'all really can鈥檛 distinguish fiction from reality huh? I call bullshit on 鈥渨OrLd oF mEn鈥 bullshit because CM鈥檚 writing was fucking trash. Literally every single fucking man she met besides Nick Fury and the Skrull guy was a complete misogynistic caricature, to the point that her FUCKING DAD鈥橲 first reaction to her getting in a go-cart accident was not desperate fear/concern for his only daughter, but to鈥mmediately belittle her? No babe that鈥檚 not reality, that鈥檚 shit ass writers who have no sense of nuance and no sense of developing villains because 鈥淯HHHHH HERO IS WOMAN AND MAN HATE WOMAN SO ALL MEN BAD鈥.Take another example, the boot camp scene where apparently like 8 white guys have nothing to do except stand around and taunt Carol? Except in real life boot camp no one has fucking time to stand around, your ass is constantly being drilled and harassed by your drill instructor, and all of the recruits are being shaped into a unit to WORK TOGETHER, with everyone being treated equally harshly. (Also, I鈥檓 supposed to believe that boot camp back in the 80鈥檚/90鈥檚 was unisex?) If it was just Carol training on her own, that again begs the question of why an entire group of guys was just staring at her while she was training instead of I don鈥檛 know鈥 doing their own training? Relaxing on base during what little leisure time they had? But those questions don鈥檛 matter because the writers didn鈥檛 give a damn about reality. They only gave a fuck about pushing their bullshit man hating agenda, strawmanning all men, and creating a situation where Carol was nothing but a poor innocent victim of evil cruel men. They literally only existed to victimize Carol and make all of her behavior seem acceptable because 鈥渢hey were mean to her first, so if she decides to nearly break a man鈥檚 hand off and steal his motorcycle later, it鈥檚 okay!鈥 That鈥檚 not fucking realism, that鈥檚 hack writing.Captain Marvel is bad, she鈥檚 not even remarkable by the standards of female characters, and quite frankly it鈥檚 insulting that you ignore and downplay other, far more iconic and well-written female heroes just because Carol plays to your politics. @waveringwannabevalkyrie 鈥渨orld of man鈥 is a term used in the Wonder Woman comics several times to describe the world outside of themiscrya. I鈥檓 so hope you鈥檙e not that cruel but knowing the internet, you cannot be safe. I just hope you鈥檙e not like those kind of people that I met and are willing to at least understand that just because you don鈥檛 experience something doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 the same for everyone else.@libertarirynn as someone who鈥檚 seen the movie, I feel like the struggle was more than just 鈥渘ot knowing how awesome she was.鈥 She was being lied to about her entire life for six years and we even see her have a breakdown upon realizing this. We see her sobbing out in a field over finding all this out. The idea of finally being free from the control of others, whether male or female (people seem to forget that minn-erva was also a villain in the movie) in both a physical and emotional sense. Despite Carol having her memories wiped in the beginning, the audience gets flashes of the sexism she faced growing up. While I love both films, I will say that captain marvel spoke to me more than Wonder Woman because of my own personal experiences and if it didn鈥檛 do the same for you guys, that鈥檚 fine. I just feel that the movie gets misrepresented or misinterpreted a lot and that it is unfair. It sucks that Wonder Woman is used to bash captain marvel despite the different approaches the movies take towards women鈥檚 issues. In fact, that behavior has caused me to like Wonder Woman less and less and I really don鈥檛 want that to happen. Not only do I start to see the flaws in the film being put on a pedestal, I become more defensive of the one that鈥檚 being misrepresented. I still love the Wonder Woman movie but the internet makes it hard to sometimes.I guess what I鈥檓 saying is鈥 wish fans wouldn鈥檛 use one to bash the other. I honestly wasn鈥檛 trying to bash Wonder Woman or use captain marvel to do so in my last reply. I was just explaining how one is more successful since it tried to be more palatable while the other took more risks in being a feminist film. I hope you both can see that I am not looking for a fight and am just explaining myself. I hope this helped you understand where I鈥檓 coming from and that instead of arguing or throwing insults like what usually happens online, this can be handled amicably. Both are good movies.People who hate them or use one to trash the other are secist idiots. End of story Or maybe they just have a different opinion and maybe you need to learn how to spell 鈥渟exist鈥 before calling anyone else an idiot.

That鈥檚 why I used it here. I would go over how abusive men do exist, just like abusive women do and how I鈥檝e had my own experiences with an abusive father but from your tone, I think if I explain anymore you would make fun of me or something with the whole 鈥渁w you have daddy issues and that鈥檚 why you like the movie lol鈥.

End of story

Or maybe they just have a different opinion and maybe you need to learn how to spell 鈥渟exist鈥 before calling anyone else an idiot.
