Also Sultan saidĀ ā€œIā€™m not going to be alive forever, I want to make sure you are provided for and taken care ofā€ as the reason for why he wants to get Jasmine married. As someone who is an older sibling and helped raising her younger siblings I know that very powerful overprotective feeling. You know the dangers of the world. You know the world is uncaring and unkind. You know people arenā€™t afraid to play dirty and to hurt innocent people to get what they want. So you try to shield your children/siblings from such a scary world because you donā€™t want them to get hurt. You donā€™t want your child/sibling dying because someone was so uncaring of another life. Could triton and Chief tui be more understanding of their childrenā€™s dreams and passions? Yes! But again these are parents who faces the harshness of the world and wanted to protect their children from that. Jasmin is a princess, royalty are always going to have someone try to kill them, invade their lands, etc. at least sultan was allowing his daughter to choose the man she loved. He was aware of the dangers she faced but still wanted to make her happy. A lot of Disney parents are loving and caring and they want the best for their children, though sometimes like all parents they mess up along the way. Raising and caring for another human is tough. Frollo and mother Gothal are seen as villains because they arenā€™t trying to protect their ā€œchildrenā€ from the harshness of the world. Oh yes they say they are but itā€™s a way to control them. Elinor behaves in similar ways that Chief Tui, Sultan, and Triton do regarding their daughters. It was astounding, im astounding truth. Everyone thougbt they were Dumbo. Again and again I saw the phenomenon repeated. My mom even made a comment to the effect of how, like rapunzelā€™s real mom, her love for me would always triumph or whatever. And she didnā€™t get it! She didnā€™t see the similarities of how she locked me away in the house, or how she kept me under the tightest supervision under the guise of keeping me safe. I spent the entire mother knows best song stealing glances at her next to me in the theater just waiting for her to drag us out of the movie because she couldnā€™t stand to have her ā€œloveā€ portrayed as evil. And she didnā€™t see how the fact that she created her identity completely around being a mother and nothing else was like mother gothelā€™s dependency on rapunzelā€™s magic hair. It was only after seeing her positive reaction to the movie, that I really understood the meaning of the phrase ā€œeveryone is the hero of their own storyā€. If youā€™ve followed me for quite some time, youā€™ll remember I made a first version of this painting a few years ago, in 2013 to be precise, which I still like a lot (https://www.deviantart.com/hollybell/art/Princess-Tea-Party-417118671). It was already a bit ambitious for me at the time, and youā€™ll notice I took quite some shortcuts here and there, especially with the background. Because of that, and because I never got around to take part in the improvement meme that circulated a while ago, I decided to make a new updated version ! I had been wanting to do it for a long time, and recent events made it possible for me to set aside enough time to make it happen.Youā€™ll notice I changed the princesses who appear in the image. Thereā€™s no particular reason behind it, but if I had to give one Iā€™d say itā€™s just to suit my current taste better :) For instance, I canā€™t remember why I picked Snow White at the time, because sheā€™s not one of my favs. My favorite princesses are Belle and Ariel, so they stay in the front spots :) I also love Giselle, and I have sweet spots for Moana and Rapunzel. Except this time I gave her her long hair for a change. Tiana kicks ass so I really wanted her to stay too, and I also adore Mulan so she just HAD to be there. The two women in the bottom right corner in Winterhalterā€™s painting seem to have a closer relationship, and it just seemed that it would be perfect for sisters. I hesitated because there are other girls I like way more than Anna and Elsa but it seemed more consistent that way. And bonus point, an excuse to add glitter ! \o/A couple of questions I get often :Ā« Why is [insert other princess] not here ? Ā»Well, if you look at Winterhalterā€™s painting, youā€™ll notice there are only 9 women, and so I had to stick to that. So yeah, obviously thatā€™s not enough room to draw everyone. I picked the princesses I liked best or wanted to draw at that point, but feel free to make your own version with the ones you like !Ā« Why so much watermark ? It ruins the piece ! Ā»Because Iā€™m really done with my stuff being stolen, cropped and savagely reposted on pages with no credit. Even when Gothel is in ā€œmotherā€ role to Rapunzel, sheā€™s is shown as nagging and passive aggressive, both antisemitic stereotypes of Jewish women.</p> <p><b>There is no one thing that makes her an antisemitic caricature, but the design, plus the storyline she plays out, plus her characterization cement the overall character as antisemitic. Ā </b></p> <p>Jew-coding a villain is not in itself always antisemitic when there are also Jewish coded <b>heroes</b>. Rapunzel does not have that.</p> <p>Having a villain steal a baby for magical/ritualistic reasons is not always antisemitic as long as the villain is not Jew-coded. As if it didnā€™t occur to them we might be hanging out in gay bars to meet other gay people. My gay friend took me to a gay bar once i dont see the big issue of me going there whilst straight. Its not some exclusive club for gays only the same way we dont ha ve straight people clubs. So you donā€™t think thereā€™s a reason there are gay bars? There is a reason it is for people to find like minded people but its NOT exclusive for gays only. Just like standard clubs arent only for straights i have had quite a few gay friends over the years and not one has batted an eyelid as ive joined them at a gay bar, I understand some people go there because they fetishize gay people and are looking for gay bffs but not EVERY straight person is like that. Gay bars exist because before 2003 it was illegal in most states to be gay and one of the few places where gay and trans people could go and be themselves was a fucking mob-owned bar. The cops used to kick down gay peopleā€™s doors and arrest them while they were in bed. Trans people couldnā€™t walk down the street without getting at least questioned by the cops. Bars were the only space for us, and even then theyā€™d get raided by the cops. Itā€™s why the riot that kicked off the modern gay rights movement happened at Stonewall, a bar. Itā€™s why gay gathering places are bars instead of coffee shops or restaurants 9/10 times. (It also doesnā€™t hurt that drinking eases the pain of being the almost constant target of harassment and anti-gay legislation, also why alcoholism is so high in our community) This isnā€™t some fucking hookup culture thing, or finding ā€œlike minded peopleā€ itā€™s something that was forced onto and built into our culture. Just like standard clubs arent only for straights i have had quite a few gay friends over the years and not one has batted an eyelid as ive joined them at a gay bar, I understand some people go there because they fetishize gay people and are looking for gay bffs but not EVERY straight person is like that. Gay bars exist because before 2003 it was illegal in most states to be gay and one of the few places where gay and trans people could go and be themselves was a fucking mob-owned bar. The cops used to kick down gay peopleā€™s doors and arrest them while they were in bed. Trans people couldnā€™t walk down the street without getting at least questioned by the cops. Bars were the only space for us, and even then theyā€™d get raided by the cops. Itā€™s why the riot that kicked off the modern gay rights movement happened at Stonewall, a bar. Itā€™s why gay gathering places are bars instead of coffee shops or restaurants 9/10 times. (It also doesnā€™t hurt that drinking eases the pain of being the almost constant target of harassment and anti-gay legislation, also why alcoholism is so high in our community) This isnā€™t some fucking hookup culture thing, or finding ā€œlike minded peopleā€ itā€™s something that was forced onto and built into our culture. Youā€™re exploiting our spaces that you forced us into to begin with. Donā€™t walk in here and tell us why gay bars exist when youā€™re this fucking ignorant.

Openly expressed her contempt for the idea being married off without her consent. Was initially disinterested in Aladdin because she thought he was just another arrogant prince. Fell in love with him for his heart to the point that his pauper origins didnā€™t matter to her.</p><p>Rapunzel- Wanted celebrate to her birthday by not being imprisoned for once, nothing to do with a man. In fact when a man broke into her home she swiftly knocked him out and tied him up. That man ended up loving her so much he was willing to die for her and her passionate love brought him back to life.</p><p>Snow White- Was a young girl being chased around by crazy old lady who was angry that she was pretty. Ended up negotiating her safety with some dwarves by offering her services as a cook and housekeeper in exchange for room and board. Was only ā€œwaitingā€œ for a man in that she was literally unconscious after being poisoned by a witch and a kiss was the only thing they could save her.</p><p>Mulan- Are you fucking serious? What about her story is her waiting for a man to save her? She literally saved her father, her love interest, and then her whole damn country. You could not have watched two seconds of that film and come away thinking she was waiting for man to save her.</p><p>Aurora- She was a 16-year-old girl forced to live in seclusion her whole life. Sue her for daydreaming a bit about romance. She still showed kindness to animals and loved her adoptive caregivers and was fairly content with her life. Definitely not pining away for a man every second.</p><p>Cinderella- Cinderella probably gets the the worst of being dragged through the mud by Edgyā„¢ feminists trying to make a point. Literally she never asked for a prince to save her. She didnā€™t even really complain much about being forced into slavery by her evil family. She just wanted one damn night off and meeting the prince was ancillary. And in fact the person who first shows her kindness and empowers her to achieve her goals is another woman.</p><p>Pocahontas- Again now youā€™re just making shit up. She was not waiting for prince, in fact she was bored at the prospect of living an ordinary home life and disinterested in marrying the handsome warrior her father had set up for her. She ends up striking up a friendship with someone her entire tribe hates and distrusts, up to and including saving HIM from being murdered.</p><p>Tiana- You are not ABOUT to do my girl Tiana dirty like this. She worked her ass off to achieve her dream of being an independent restaurant owner, something practically unheard of for a young black woman in the 20s. Romance was the absolute LAST thing on her mind and again, her actions were fundamental in saving the life of the prince.</p><p>Belle- Again, she wasnā€™t interested in the big strong handsome man that everyone was saying she should be interested in. Because she saw past looks and recognized that he was a sexist and generally unpleasant person. It was her willingness to see past the exterior that saved Prince Adam.</p><p>Ariel- She wanted to be a human before she knew about Eric. She saved him from drowning. She defied her father the KING in a fight for her own independence. But sure she was waiting around for man.</p><p>Merida- Merida didnā€™t even have a love interest and the entire film was built around a rejection of that premise. This one is barely worth the time to acknowledge.</p><p>Tl;Dr: Your weak edgelord attempt to discredit Disney princesses and make girls feel shitty for enjoying them is bad and you should feel bad.</p>
