Memes, Nfl, and Protest: Bucs' Gerald McCoy Thinks "It's Going To Be An Uproar" If Players Are Forced to Stand @balleralert Bucs’ Gerald McCoy Thinks “It’s Going To Be An Uproar” If Players Are Forced to Stand – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just one day after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to the league’s 32 teams in an attempt to “move past” the controversy surrounding the national anthem protest. Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman GeraldMcCoy weighed in on the letter, saying there may “be an uproar” if NFL players are forced to stand for the national anthem. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although Goodell made it clear that he wants players to stand for the anthem, he did not say it would be required of the players. Instead, he ensured that the league would allow players to “include such elements as an in-season platform to promote the work of our players on these core issues.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, McCoy doesn’t think that will sit well with the rest of the guys. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I don’t think [the] guys are gonna like it,” McCoy said on Adam Schefter’s “Know Them From Adam” podcast, when asked about the possible reaction of the players. “I think it’s gonna be an uproar if that is to happen because you’re basically taking away a constitutional right to freedom of speech. If guys wanna have a, I guess you would call it a peaceful protest, I don’t think it’s right to take that away,” he said, although he does not plan on being involved in the protest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are your thoughts?

Alive, Children, and Family: Let's Talk: Why Is It Important For Blacks In High Positions To Stand Up For Their People? @balleralert Let’s Talk: Why Is It Important For Blacks In High Positions To Stand Up For Their People? - blogged by @peachkyss ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You would think that in 2017, the slave mentality of some people wouldn’t be present. Well, guess what? It’s here and it’s up to us to stand up for our rights. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can protest as much as we like but there are some people in this society that don’t give a damn how blacks feel. Everyday we are constantly reminded that our opinions don’t have any type of substance and we are tired. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are so many black people that are in higher positions that have a platform to stand up for us as a whole but refuse to do so. I’m sick and tired of hearing, “I don’t want to lose my sponsors” or “This is my job and I have to do what I’m told.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is pure BS! That’s slave mentality. You like being mistreated by “the people” at the top. Our ancestors did not care whether they had a job to fulfill or not. They spoke up every chance they got and we must do the same. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We cannot let this celebrity in chief continue to degrade us and treating this country as a damn dictatorship. This country is supposed to be moving forward but we keep getting knocked backwards. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you have a platform speak up. Your children, significant others, and family are looking up to you for guidance and support. Don’t let them down by being silent. Speak the hell up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t let us continue to be degraded on a daily basis because of the color of our skin. Our ancestors fought for our freedom and we must continue to keep the legacy and hope alive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are counting on you, so do what’s right. The documentary, titled “With Drawn Arms,” will focus on Smith’s strength and John Carlos’ courage to join in, despite the consequences. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, as the protests of the national anthem resurface in sports, both Legend and Williams believe Smith’s story deserves to be told. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “We are excited to collaborate with true artists in Glenn Kaino and Afshin Shahidi to bring this powerful story to the world in a fresh and compelling way,” Legend said. “In this current climate we are once again being charged to stand up to bigotry, fear, and hate. We are inspired by this story and honored to be a creative partner on this film.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Tommie Smith is more than an iconic poster or risky act of defiance that inspires people the world over,” Williams said. “He is a living man, whose incredible journey is worthy of examination. I couldn’t be more excited to join forces with this team of film makers, to share his reality and challenge our notions of heroism in the process.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to Deadline, the film is expected to be released October of next year, for the 50th anniversary of the raised fist by the now-73-year-old Smith.

Since then, a few teams have announced that they would be protesting the national anthem by locking arms, while others revealed that they will not be participating in the protest at all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, amid the ongoing controversy, Kobe Bryant says if he were still playing today, he would be kneeling during the national anthem, despite the league rule. The retired Los Angeles Laker player revealed his decision on Wednesday, on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Kneel,” Bryant said, when asked what he would do if faced with the decision. When asked what he would say if he could speak to Donald Trump, he said he’s advise the celebrity-in-chief to “focus on serving, not leading.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bryant’s former team is one of many that have decided to lock arms during the anthem prior to the start of preseason games. The team’s coach discussed the decision last week saying, “We are in this together.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I think they chose to show that we are united in this and that obviously they have a ton of respect… well, I will let them speak for themselves, but I have a ton of respect for the country, the flag, the military,” Luke Walton said. “But by locking arms, I feel like we are showing that there are issues in this country, and it is a chance for us to raise awareness and still make it a talking point. If you do nothing, then it kind of goes away, and if it goes away, then nothing changes.”

The coach had already told players he did not want anyone to kneel, due to his own participation in the military. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ "He told us that disrespect will not be tolerated," Lewis said, recalling the moment after the anthem. "He told us to take off our uniform and leave it there." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Lewis' mother, Rhonda Brady, says she supports her son and nephew's decision to protest. She also says she was surprised by the coach's reaction. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ "I'm definitely going to have a conversation because I don't like the way that was handled," Brady said. "But I don't want them back on the team. While we can’t control the actions of others we can be responsible for how we support our nation and community. That is why, years ago, our principal owner, Jay Cimino, founded the Mount Carmel Veteran’s Service center, and is supported by all Phil Long Dealerships. We support this cause not just with our words, but financially as well, and it is serving hundreds of veterans in need right here in Colorado. This would be a great time for our community to show support for our military community by supporting this cause or others that continue to serve them after they serve us.”

Blessed, College, and Football: Tom Brady Calls Trump's Comments "Just Divisive" @balleralert Tom Brady Calls Trump's Comments "Just Divisive"- blogged by @niksofly ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After the NewEnglandPatriots fought to a 36-33 victory over the HoustonTexans, TomBrady was unwilling to dive into politics during the media query. Brady didn't want to mix politics with his admiration for his teammates. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, Monday morning, Brady was willing to talk about 45's "son of bitches" comments, where he attacked NFL players who took a knee in protest of racial injustices. During his weekly interview sports radio WEEI's "Kirk and Callahan" program, Brady didn't mind delving into politics. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Regarding Trump's remarks, Brady stated , "I certainly disagree with what he said. I thought it was just divisive." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When asked about whether players should kneel or not, Brady responded by saying , "I just want to support my teammates. I'm never one that says, 'Oh, that's wrong or that's right.' But I do believe in what I believe in, and I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust. Those are the values that my parents instilled in me and that's how I try to live every day." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brady continued, "I've been blessed to be in a locker room with guys from all over the United States over the course of my career. Some of my great friends are from Florida, Virginia, New York, Montana, Colorado, Texas. I think one thing about football is that it brings so many guys together, guys that you would never have the opportunity to be around, whether it was in college and all the way into the pros. We're all different. We're all unique. That's what makes us all so special."
