While majority of the felonies for cannabis usage will be reviewed, recalled, and prepped for resentencing, the misdemeanors will be dismissed, said District Attorney George Gascón. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Proposition 64-also known as the Adult Use of Marijuana act, legalized the recreational use of marijuana in the state of California, and it also permitted those convicted of associated charges to petition the courts to throw out or reduce their penalties. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, due to the lengthy process of filing a petition, Gascón says that they are currently executing a plan to wipe out and decrease a mass of cases that haven’t even been petitioned. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "What we want to make sure is… that people who were really the victims of the war on drugs-in general terms, and are people who are trying to get their lives in the right direction, that they get relief they deserve," Gascón expressed. Abc, Doctor, and Family: California Girl Dies From Deadly Infection After Being Misdiagnosed With Flu @balleralert California Girl Dies From Deadly Infection After Being Misdiagnosed With Flu - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A 12-year-old California girl lost her life after her mother said a doctor misdiagnosed a deadly infection with the flu. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Dec. 17, Alyssa Alcaraz died in Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, California, from an infection called sepsis which kills more than 250,000 Americans a year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This comes only days after a doctor told her family that she had influenza, prescribed her ibuprofen and instructed her to rest for 10 days at home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "For her, it wasn't even [the flu]. It was just three days and she was dead," Keila Lino Alcaraz, the girl’s mother, told ABC News ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, according to Alyssa’s death certificate officials from Tulare County say she died from cardiac arrest and septic shock, which is the body’s extreme response to an infection. "Sepsis can rapidly cause tissue damage, organ failure and death," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Alyssa’s mother says she won’t take any legal action but she hopes medical officials will develop tests for rare cases like Alyssa’s to prevent misdiagnosing other patients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "I have mixed emotions. I know doctors and clinics are so overwhelmed with flu cases right now. My thing is, yeah, I could point fingers, but as a mother, I missed it, too," she said.

The 29-year-old launched the charity over Christmas weekend, in honor of her late brother, Miyagi, who passed away, after battling cancer, back in 2012. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Through the newly-established organization, Aiko has set out to assist cancer patients and the families of those in need, providing not only financial but emotional comfort and support, as well. She made her first generous donation to Lily Olive Cosby, a five-year-old girl from Eagle Rock, California, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Aiko visited Cosby's home with a $15,000 check in hand to cover the little one's medical bills. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When speaking with Billboard, Aiko says, "This Christmas, I decided to gift my family with the 'WAYS Foundation,' something my family and I have had in the works since the passing of my brother," She expresses. "I decided to make a donation on my family's behalf, in which we plan to continue to help people and families affected by cancer." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to Billboard, the name of the foundation gains its significance from the phrase "Why aren't you smiling?"-which is something that her brother once tweeted during his battle with the disease.

California Governor Pardons Two Immigrants Caught in Raids in Huge Middle Finger to Trump splinternews.com Cc @realdonaldtrump 🖕🏽🖕🏼🖕🏿🖕🏾 As part of his annual holiday pardons, the governor of California pardoned two immigrants who were arrested in immigration raids earlier this year. Gov. Jerry Brown recently pardoned or reduced sentences for some 150 individuals convicted of crimes. Among those pardoned were Rottanak Kong and Mony Neth, two Cambodian refugees facing deportation who were recently arrested as part of a federal immigration roundup. The “full and unconditional pardons” for Kong and Neth comes as the Trump administration justifies increased immigration enforcement by claiming immigrants who have been convicted of crimes, even nonviolent offenses, pose an immediate danger to American citizens and should be targeted for deportation. But Brown said Kong and Neth have already served their time and paid their debts to society, essentially saying the two immigrants don’t need to be doubly punished by being deported. Kong and Neth’s pardons mark the second time Gov. Brown has pardoned immigrants convicted of serious crimes, according to The Sacramento Bee. During his Easter pardons earlier this year, the governor pardoned two veterans who had been deported to Mexico. So far, an immigration judge has allowed one of those veterans the rare right to return the United States after being deported. Source: Splinter

During the stop, officials smelled marijuana and asked to search the vehicle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Upon the search, 80-year-old Patrick Jiron agreed and admitted to having the illegal substance in his car. As officials conducted the authorized search, deputies found 60 pounds of weed in the pickup topper, with multiple containers of concentrated THC, all worth more than $300,000. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to reports, the couple was traveling from northern California, attempting to deliver the marijuana for Christmas presents. But now, the couple faces felony possession charges, as they had no drug tax stamp, which is required in Nebraska to deal drugs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The two were arrested on Interstate 80 and cited on charges on possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and of lacking a drug tax stamp. According to reports, while Jiron is being held in the York County jail, his 83-year-old wife has been cited but not locked up, “due to some medical issues.”
